The Whitaker Group, known for brands A Ma Maniére, Social Status, APB, and Prosper, proudly unveils The Collective on Tuckaseegee in Charlotte. This new development includes ten unique retail units, featuring APB Charlotte, and introduces the first privately held, Black-owned, publicly accessible non-DIY skatepark in the US.
Located in Charlotte’s historic West Side, the 13,000-square-foot compound aims to nurture the predominantly Black enclave of Enderly Park through community collaboration. This community-driven complex will blend local businesses with leading cultural brands, creating a dynamic hub for commerce and community engagement. By merging local businesses with established Whitaker Group brands, The Collective fosters economic growth and cultural enrichment in the neighborhood.
“Black culture has always been a driving force in shaping global trends,” said The Whitaker Group Founder James Whitner. “This complex is a crucial step in showcasing how our culture moves fashion, business, and lifestyle. We are excited to provide a space for local businesses and communities to gather and thrive. Through this launch, we also expand our reach to the skateboarding community, offering a safe space for local youth to express themselves and discover the virtues of the sport and its culture.”
The complex will debut APB Charlotte, the latest location of the APB retail brand. Featuring an in-house apparel program inspired by the skate community, APB Charlotte will bring its world-leading brand selection to the Charlotte market. The state-of-the-art skatepark, developed with BOARDR, highlights The Whitaker Group’s commitment to inclusivity and community development. The APB Skatepark will offer programming through APB YOU, blending education and exposure to new concepts with community interests. Programs will include after-school lessons, trick tutorials, and events for youth, women, and families.
The skate park will open on June 21, 2024, for Go Skate Day, with a week of programming culminating in the inaugural APB Music live event and block party on June 28 and 29.

Store Opening: 12-8PM: The cultural hub will officially open the new retail community, including the full retail spaces alongside, the first-ever Black owned skate park within the space. Attendees will be able to enjoy a DJ amongst food and beverage offerings.

Friday, June 21: APB | Group Skate x Go Skate Day with Nike SB

4PM Group Skate: In partnership with NIke SB, will host a group skate across Charlotte that concludes at the Tuckaseegee campus. Details on the skate day include:

5PM – 8PM Open Skate: Attendees were encouraged to participate in an open skate with food and beverage offerings from 5PM- 8PM alongside competitions, group skate and more. There will be exclusive Nike SB giveaways and prizes alongside a full celebration with DJ, food and drinks.
