Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has been named assistant general manager for Davidson College’s men’s basketball program and is helping establish a multi-million-dollar fund to support both men’s and women’s teams at his alma mater. This makes Curry the first active NBA player to take on an administrative role in college athletics.

Curry, a Davidson basketball legend, played for the Wildcats from 2006 to 2009, leading them to the Elite Eight in 2008 and setting the NCAA single-season record for three-pointers.

“The Davidson experience is top notch,” said Curry in a press release. “My journey from when I got to Davidson in 2006 to now demonstrated that I had the opportunity to play basketball at the highest level, got a great education, an amazing network through the Davidson alumni and continue to wave the Davidson flag. I want very talented, high character student athletes to have that same experience.”

The Curry-Berman Fund, backed by Curry, his wife Ayesha, and Davidson alumni Don, Matt, and Erica Berman, aims to help the school directly share revenue with players, pending approval of the House v. NCAA settlement later this year.
