Just 1 day after yesterday’s no-swim advisory was issued for Lake Wylie, a new no-swim advisory has now been issued for Lake Norman after a pipe break dumped hundreds of gallons of raw sewage into a cove in Cornelius.
According to Mecklenburg County’s official alert, “The “No Swim” advisory was issued after an estimated 875 gallons of sewage spilled into Lake Norman from a failed pipe at 18630 Jetton Road, Cornelius, NC. The line is being repaired and the discharge has been stopped. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services staff will monitor water quality in the area until bacteria levels are determined to be suitable for human contact, at which time the advisory will be lifted.”
If you live in the area and you are on a well, officials recommend checking to see if your water was contaminated by using a field testing kit, and consider installing a reverse osmosis filter on any faucet used for drinking water.
