This week, NC Governor Cooper declared an official state disaster for the Charlotte-area town of Landis in Rowan County, which was recently devastated by an EF-1 tornado. This declaration provides additional aid to the affected town.
“This state disaster declaration will help the people of Landis as they recover from an EF-1 tornado that brought destruction to their homes and businesses,” said Cooper in a press release.
The order allows state-funded grants for debris removal and emergency measures and will be valid for sixty days.
After joint evaluations by local and state officials, it was found that Landis faced over $10,000 in uninsured damages from the tornado, surpassing one percent of its yearly budget. The town won’t receive federal aid based on this assessment.
