Fire crews from across Gaston County and neighboring areas responded Monday afternoon to a large fire at Metal Recycling Services along U.S. 321. Emergency officials said the blaze began around 3:15 pm.
More than two dozen departments assisted in battling the flames, including fire crews from across Gaston County, Mecklenburg County, and even South Carolina. No injuries were reported, though one firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
The Ranlo Fire Department reported arriving at 5401 York Highway around 3:38 p.m. to assist Crowders Mountain Fire Department. Tanker 19 helped set up a water supply point behind the facility, while both Tanker 19 and Rescue 19 assisted in suppressing the fire. While on the scene, Engine 19 remained in district and responded to three separate service calls, including a medical emergency, a motor vehicle accident, and another outside fire.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the fire. The Gaston County Police Department is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
