Caldwell Presbyterian Church in Charlotte is repurposing a century-old building to create 21 low-income studio apartments.
The $6 million project, supported by an $800,000 contribution from the congregation, aims to provide affordable housing without requiring tenants to be drug- or alcohol-free. Support services will be offered after housing is secured.
The church partnered with Dream Key Partners for construction and Roof Above for case management. They plan to open the apartments by May 2025.
The church is also planning an upcoming summit on November 23 to inspire other churches and community leaders to help address Charlotte’s housing crisis.
