North Carolina’s 2023 fall colors are expected to be some of the brightest and most beautiful in years.
The average temperature this year is 69.05°F degrees, which is the 9th warmest summer on record, according to NOAA. This year has also been one of the wettest years on record with a total of 29.84″ of rain, which will result in a slightly later and brighter fall color season.
North Carolina’s peak season will start at the end of September on our highest peaks and run until the end of October the Piedmont.
According to SmokyMountains.com, colors should be at their peak around October 23rd across most of the Blue Ridge Parkway and October 30th in Charlotte;
More specifically, the highest elevations Mt Mitchell, Grandfather Mountain will peak the last week of this month (around 6,000 feet elevation), and roughly one week later per 1,000 feet in elevation drop.
