Disney has just announced plans to come to North Carolina to build one of their first innovative ‘Storyliving by Disney‘ self-enclosed towns. The new 1,500-acre ‘Asteria’ community is poised to offer a blend of 4,000 single family, multifamily, and mixed-use spaces in a fully enclosed live-work-play concept.

Currently in the early stages of development, Disney’s vision for Asteria is being brought to life in collaboration with Arizona’s DMB Development. Disney Imagineers are using innovative storytelling to craft the community’s blueprint, with home sales expected to commence by 2027.

“The name Asteria pays homage to the wonder of the night sky and its ability to make us pause, ponder and consider life’s possibilities. And like the thriving Carolina Aster flower, this enchanting community will be woven into the beautiful landscape,” Disney said on their website.

The community will be designed to celebrate the great outdoors and continuous learning, featuring sprawling neighborhood parks, a clubhouse, a wellness and recreation center, a restaurant, a community garden, and an extensive trail system. Emphasizing outdoor living, it will also offer swimming pools, playful outdoor spaces, fire pits, and a variety of events. These include Disney-themed ‘family fun days’, creative workshops led by Disney artists, and storytelling dinners inspired by classic narratives.

Asteria will be built in North Carolina’s Chatham County and marks the second ‘Storyliving by Disney‘ project in the United States, following the Cotino community in Rancho Mirage, California.
