The City of Charlotte has announced a strategic partnership with TPMA, a national workforce and economic development consulting firm, to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the local small business ecosystem.
This initiative, funded by the Charlotte City Council through the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, is part of a broader effort to understand the challenges facing local entrepreneurs and improve resources for growth and sustainability.
TPMA will lead the assessment in order to identify service gaps, resource needs, and growth opportunities for small businesses. The new study will provide valuable insights into the barriers that entrepreneurs encounter and create opportunities for targeted solutions.
“I can’t stress enough how valuable this survey is for shaping the future of Charlotte’s small business landscape,” said Christi Floyd, economic development program manager. “The input we receive will help us understand the unique challenges and opportunities you face, ensuring we can develop targeted resources and programs that truly meet our small business community’s needs. This is your chance to have a direct impact on the policies and initiatives that support your growth.”
As part of the study, city leaders will engage directly with local business owners through surveys and consultations. The citywide small business survey is currently live, allowing entrepreneurs to voice their concerns and share their experiences. The study will conclude in June 2025, and once the data is analyzed, Charlotte plans to develop an implementation strategy. This plan will inform future programs, policies, and resources to support the success and sustainability of small businesses in the Queen City.
