Last week, 120 elite flag football players gathered at the United States Performance Center on UNC Charlotte’s campus to vie for a coveted spot on the 2025 U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams.
The trials brought together 60 men and 60 women from 18 states, each competing in a series of athletic tests, on-field drills, and 1-on-1 and 5-on-5 scrimmages. USA Football will soon trim the roster to 12 players per team.
The selected athletes will compete in upcoming international matches. The women’s team will also represent the U.S. at the 2025 World Games in China.
According to USA Football, flag football participation has been surging over the past several years, particularly among youth ages 6 to 12, with a 58% increase from 2014 to 2023. The sport’s momentum is highlighted in the documentary Champions Rising: USA Football’s National Team.
USA Football, a Recognized Sports Organization of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, is responsible for selecting and leading national teams in both tackle and flag football.
