Federal health agencies, including the CDC, FDA, and USDA FSIS, have just issued an emergency collective alert after discovering a widespread E. coli O157 outbreak linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers.

Most affected individuals reported eating Quarter Pounders before falling ill.

McDonald’s has taken precautionary measures to ensure customer safety. Customers experiencing severe E. coli symptoms should contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting, typically starting 3 to 4 days after infection. Most recover within 5 to 7 days, though serious kidney complications like hemolytic uremic syndrome may occur, requiring hospitalization.
