Yesterday the Carolina Hurricanes were facing elimination in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoff series, starting the game as the underdogs against the NY Rangers.
Our chances at advancing were looking even more bleak after trailing 1-0 into the third period, with Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin in top form.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, Hurricanes Centre Jordan Staal broke through with a dramatic slap shot into the back of the net.
Staal’s goal came after a power play, assisted by Dmitry Orlov, marking his first of the playoffs. Kuznetsov added another on a rebound, and Martinook scored off a pass from Martin Necas. Necas sealed the victory with an empty-net goal as the Rangers pulled Shesterkin for an extra attacker.

The win narrowed the Rangers’ series lead to 3-2, with Game 6 set for Thursday at PNC Arena.
Despite the Rangers leading the series and having home-ice advantage, the Hurricanes showed the world they won’t be underestimated.
