A 12-year-old boy has just died from injuries he sustained after falling from the “Clip ‘N Climb” structure at Lowell’s Altitude Trampoline Park.
Matthew Lu went to the park with his mother on Wednesday night, 1 day after his 12th birthday.
According to Lowell Police, the boy was not secured by a harness when he fell from a climbing structure. His mother found him unconscious and called 911. He was rushed to Gastonia’s CaroMonth Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, then flown to Levine Children’s Hospital where he died from his injuries 1 day later.
Altitude Trampoline Park’s executive vice president Courtney Wilde sent out a statement the day of the tragic accident:
Yes, there was injury at our park involving a 12-year-old child. We’ve been in touch with a representative from the family. We are getting updates on his condition periodically, and are not in a position to speak for the family. As we get more information we will share it with you. In the meantime, we are taking every step necessary at the park. The rock climbing structure has been closed while we investigate exactly what happened.
Yesterday the trampoline park closed, posting on Facebook, “Due to an injury at the park, and out of respect for the family, the park is closed today.”
Today the park was closed once again;
Lowell Police have reviewed the surveillance footage and decided not to conduct a criminal investigation.
