Charlotte FC struck early on Saturday with an 11th minute score. Midfielder Pep Biel dribbled through traffic outside the penalty box and threaded a perfect through ball to forward Liel Abada, who calmly slotted the finish past San Diego goalkeeper CJ dos Santos to give Charlotte an early 1-0 lead.
Charlotte maintained offensive pressure throughout the first half, and it paid off again in the 39th minute. A long ball over the top found Patrick Agyemang one-on-one near the box, forcing San Diego defender Andres Reyes into a desperate challenge. Initially called a free kick just outside the area with a straight red for Reyes, a VAR review determined the foul occurred inside the box. The decision was changed to a penalty kick and a second yellow card, ending Reyes’ debut with an early exit.
Agyemang stepped up and converted the penalty with power, doubling Charlotte’s lead in the 42nd minute and sending them into halftime up 2-0.
Down a man and two goals, San Diego struggled to recover. Charlotte kept pressing in the second half. In the 54th minute, Abada nearly scored again after rounding the goalkeeper, but San Diego’s Hamady Diop—Charlotte’s former No. 1 pick—cleared the shot off the line with a goal-saving header.
Minutes later, Charlotte capitalized on a set piece. Defender Andrew Privett rose above the defense and headed home a third goal in the 57th minute, sealing the match with a 3-0 advantage.
Charlotte FC’s defense remained solid through the final whistle, securing their second consecutive clean sheet. The win keeps Charlotte in the playoff mix and builds momentum as they chase the top spot in the East.
Charlotte FC will return to Bank of America Stadium this coming Saturday, April 26 at 7:30 pm – tickets now available here.
