Charlotte-area travelers may need to adjust their summer plans after Avelo Airlines announced overnight that it is canceling six routes from Concord-Padgett Regional Airport.
The low-cost airline confirmed it will discontinue service to Nashville, Daytona Beach, Washington Dulles, and Detroit. Notably, flights to Washington and Detroit were canceled before they ever launched. These changes come as part of Avelo’s broader strategy to optimize flight schedules and improve performance amid an increasingly competitive travel season.
The airline is also cutting all Tuesday flights system-wide during July and August, the year’s peak summer months. In 2024, just 1.1% of Avelo’s flights were scheduled on Tuesdays, compared to 4.4% in 2023 and 6.3% in 2022. By eliminating low-demand days and focusing more heavily on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays—which now make up 82% of its summer schedule—Avelo aims to increase revenue per seat mile.
Despite the route reductions, Avelo will continue flying from Concord to three Northeast destinations: Tweed New Haven Airport (CT), Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (NH), and Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (NY). A new route to Long Island MacArthur Airport in New York will begin on May 22 as announced in March.
Avelo’s Concord schedule remains active on popular travel days, but the carrier’s reduced footprint marks a shift in regional service just ahead of peak vacation season.
