Yesterday, the Trump administration published a list of more than 400 federal properties it deemed “not core to government operations,” ready for ‘disposal’. The list, released Tuesday by the General Services Administration (GSA), included high-profile buildings such as the FBI headquarters, the Department of Justice main building, and numerous historic federal agency offices.

According to a press release, “GSA will consider non-core assets for divestment from government ownership in an orderly fashion to ensure taxpayers no longer pay for empty and underutilized federal office space, or the significant maintenance costs associated with long-term building ownership — potentially saving more than $430 million in annual operating costs.”

The federal building sell-off is part of a broader effort by tech billionaire Elon Musk to downsize the federal government. Musk’s ‘Department of Government Efficiency’ (DOGE) claims to have saved $105 billion, however, the actual savings on the DOGE website currently only add up to $10.3 billion in total.

Less than 24 hours after publishing the federal property ‘disposal’ list, however, the GSA removed it entirely from its website, replacing it with a message stating that a new list was “coming soon.” The agency has not provided an explanation for the abrupt removal or responded to requests for comment.

Yesterday’s list included the following buildings (including 3 buildings in North Carolina and 5 in South Carolina):
