NC Officials Issue Major Alert After Radioactive Device Stolen

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has issued a public warning after a device containing radioactive material was stolen in Kernersville, NC.

Officials are urging caution and asking anyone with information to contact law enforcement immediately.

The SPEC-150 Industrial Radiography exposure device, commonly known as an “IR camera,” was stolen from a pickup truck parked at the Sleep Inn motel on Heartland Drive. The theft was discovered the following morning.

The IR camera, weighing 53 pounds and bearing serial number 0320, contains radioactive material that poses a health risk if mishandled.

Authorities advise anyone who finds the device to stay at least 30 feet away and avoid any attempts to open or move it.
