David Weekley Homes, DRB Homes, Saussy Burbank, and Toll Brothers have secured their respective parcels, which will bring 129 single-family homes and townhomes to Westrow, The River District’s town center. Construction on model homes is expected to begin as soon as January 2025, with delivery of the first homes anticipated by spring 2025. Westrow will include townhomes by Toll Brothers and DRB Homes along with detached homes on 40- and 50-foot-wide lots by David Weekley Homes, Saussy Burbank, and DRB Homes.
Westrow’s residences will embody two distinct aesthetic styles: Farm and Town. Inspired by traditional farmhouses, Farm-style homes will showcase light, neutral color palettes, simple materials, and wraparound porches that evoke a sense of rustic charm. In contrast, Town-style homes draw from the intimacy of urban living, featuring brick masonry, contemporary metal roofs, and darker neutral tones for an earthy, modern aesthetic.
“The completion of these land closings brings us closer to delivering a variety of distinctive homes that reflect the unique character and values of The River District,” said Rainer Ficken, Senior Managing Director of The River District. “This community has been thoughtfully designed to embrace the area’s natural beauty, providing residents with a seamless connection to the outdoors. From miles of trails and greenways to the vibrant town center at Westrow, The River District will offer a truly differentiated lifestyle that fosters a deep sense of belonging and balance.”
Future phases of The River District will continue to expand its residential and commercial offerings, with plans for up to 2,300 single-family homes, 2,350 multifamily units, and millions of square feet of retail, office, and mixed-use space. A portion of the multifamily units will be dedicated to mixed-income housing in partnership with Laurel Street Residential, ensuring accessibility for a range of residents. Crescent Communities recently began construction on NOVEL River District, a 318-unit multifamily development under its Class A NOVEL brand that is set to welcome residents in early 2026.

Conceptualized through a thoughtful multi-year development process guided by principles of environmental sustainability and long-term resiliency, The River District is set to include over 500 acres of preserved open space, greenways and trails, and various community amenities, alongside millions of square feet of mixed-use opportunities in addition to single-family and multifamily residential offerings. Nestled between the banks of the Catawba River and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, The River District will integrate the primary components of urban life – a connected network of homes, retail shops, restaurants, office buildings, schools, and public spaces – with the allure of the parks, trails, forests, river access, and open spaces abound in nature.
