Last night a shooting in Rock Hill left 2 people dead and another critically injured.
The incident occurred at Budiman’s Smokeshop in Rock Hill. Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Zachary East Elias of Columbia, who was taken into custody after a confrontation with officers.
Rock Hill Police responded to the scene on Cherry Road around 9:40 p.m., learning that Elias fled the scene in a silver Dodge truck. After the shooting, the suspect fled in his vehicle toward Fort Mill and crashed near the Highway 21 bridge. Officers fired a shot, used a stun gun, and eventually apprehended him. Elias now faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.
The Highway 21 bridge over the Catawaba was shut down for several hours following the shooting.
The incident remains under investigation, and police have yet to identify the victims.
