Horry County officials confirmed on Wednesday that two emus have escaped from their owner and are currently roaming freely in the Green Sea area. The Horry County Police Department is collaborating with the owner to recapture the birds, which have been reported to pose no risk to the public at this time.

This announcement followed social media posts about the sightings of the birds. Police have advised residents to remain cautious while the emus are loose. No further details have been provided regarding the recovery efforts or when the birds are expected to be caught.

Last week, a similar animal escape occurred in South Carolina when 40 monkeys fled from a research facility. Authorities used traps and thermal imaging to locate the monkeys and urged residents to secure their homes.

In light of the current situation, Horry County officials have issued similar warnings regarding the escaped emus, asking people to contact 911 if they see the birds and avoid approaching them.
