The Carolina Panthers faced another challenging defeat yesterday, falling 38-20 to the Atlanta Falcons, bringing out season record to 1-5.
Despite the loss, Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton showed an increasing comfort level in the offensive system, throwing for 221 yards, two touchdowns, and adding 21 rushing yards. Dalton surpassed Drew Bledsoe in career touchdown passes and now ranks 24th in NFL history.
The Falcons capitalized on the Panthers’ defensive struggles, with a powerful running game led by Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, who combined for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Bijan Robinson commented on the Falcons’ diverse offensive threats, noting that opposing defenses were being forced to “pick their poison.” Falcons coach Raheem Morris emphasized his team’s adaptability, stating their success on the ground came from effectively exploiting the weaknesses of the Panthers’ defense.

In the Panthers’ offense, wide receiver Diontae Johnson continued his strong performance, catching his third touchdown of the season and finishing with 78 receiving yards. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Legette and rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders also delivered notable performances. Legette caught his second career touchdown, while Sanders had a career-high five receptions, including a 21-yard grab. Running back Chuba Hubbard provided solid contributions on the ground, rushing for 92 yards and surpassing 100 scrimmage yards for the third time this season. Hubbard also reached a milestone, achieving over 100 career receptions.
Rookie linebacker Trevin Wallace provided one of the few bright spots on defense for Carolina, forcing and recovering his first career fumble, which set up a Panthers field goal. Wallace led the team in tackles and became the franchise leader in tackles for his first two starts. Despite the efforts on both sides of the ball, the Panthers have allowed over 200 points this season, highlighting the need for improvements, especially in their depleted defense.
