IKEA is about to open their second official store in Charlotte later this week.

Located in South Charlotte’s Promenade on Providence shopping center, the new 15,000-square-foot IKEA store will offer plan & order point with pick-up and delivery. Unlike the sprawling retail maze in IKEA’s first Charlotte location, this new South Charlotte store will feature a more personalized shopping experiences, allowing customers to work with specialists for home design consultations in kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

“We are thrilled to offer Charlotte metro area residents more ways to shop and experience IKEA,” said IKEA US CEO Javier Quiñones in a press release. “This new location underscores our commitment to making IKEA more accessible and affordable, bringing our home furnishing products and solutions closer to the community.”

The move to smaller, focused stores aligns with IKEA’s growth strategy across the U.S., with similar concepts opening in cities like Austin, Texas, and Atlanta. This innovative format builds on IKEA’s reputation as a leading global furniture retailer with 389 stores worldwide.

Charlotte’s original IKEA store opened in 2009 in University City, spanning 356,000 square feet, complete with a restaurant and extensive showrooms. However, this new store offers a more compact approach, concentrating on delivery-based purchases and personalized consultations. The shift in store design represents IKEA’s ongoing efforts to adapt to modern shopping habits, providing a streamlined experience for customers.

IKEA’s new South Charlotte location will hold a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, October 16th. There will be exclusive tours, giveaways, food sampling and more starting at 10am.
