This morning, the families of the four law enforcement officers killed in the April 2024 shooting in east Charlotte received a $28,000 fundraising check. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation and McDonald’s spearheaded the fundraiser to support these families.
“We are grateful for their continued support of our local law enforcement community and CMPD,” the department said in a statement.

The tragic incident occurred on April 29th in North East Charlotte during a warrant service. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of three US Marshals Fugitive Task Force members and one CMPD officer. The officers were serving a warrant related to a felon’s firearm possession when they encountered gunfire. The suspect, Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., 39, faced charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and felony flee to elude.
