In North East Charlotte this past Monday afternoon, a tragic incident during a warrant service led to the loss of four law enforcement officers. Among them were three US Marshals Fugitive Task Force members and one CMPD officer.
The confrontation occurred on Galway Drive while executing a warrant related to a felon’s firearm possession. Terry Clark Hughes, Jr., 39, faced charges including possession of a firearm by a felon and felony flee to elude.
During the approach, officers were met with gunfire, resulting in eight officers being shot. Sadly, 4 total officers lost their lives since the shooting including;
– NC Department of Adult Correction’s Samuel Poloche, aged 42
– NC Department of Adult Correction’s William Elliott, aged 44
– US Marshall Thomas M. Weeks Jr., aged 41
– CMPD’s Joshua Eyer, aged 38
This tragic event deeply impacts Charlotte’s law enforcement community. The city held a press conference yesterday to officially release the names of the fallen and talk about how the community can help support the families of the fallen and the larger CMPD force;

- Back the Blue NC’s GoFundMe campaign, aiming to raise $250,000 for all families affected.
- Eyer’s family GoFundMe campaign, with StarMed Healthcare’s pledge to match donations up to $50,000.
- Charlotte Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police, accepting donations and planning to distribute proceeds among the impacted families.
