Wawa, the wildly popular convenience store chain, is about to flood the Tar Heel State with plans to launch at least 80 new stores over the next decade.
They plan on opening eight stores in 2024 and around 15 more in 2025, with specific cities and locations to be determined.
According to their press release, each store construction will see an investment of about $7 million and employ 35 Wawa team members on average. 39% of the company is owned by its associates through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
The journey began with a groundbreaking event in the Outer Banks this past May.
By 2024, Wawa aims to have a strong presence in Eastern North Carolina, with the first several stores being located near the coast, including:
- Kill Devil Hills: North Croatan Highway & 4th Street
- Elizabeth City: Halstead Boulevard & U.S. Highway 17
- Wilson: Raleigh Road Parkway & Hayes Place; Ward Boulevard & Nash Street
- Greenville: Stantonsburg Road & Moye Boulevard
Wawa hasn’t revealed specific opening dates for their new Eastern North Carolina stores.
