Mecklenburg County has just unveiled eCourts – a comprehensive new electronic court system for all residents.
The new system will allow residents to:
- Submit online court papers to the clerk’s office in eCourts jurisdictions.
- Search for case details using various parameters like name, attorney, or citation.
- Look up court dates and hearings.
- View case data, records, and documents.
- Instantly pay fines and fees via credit card transactions.
Additionally, Guide & File offers a complimentary online service, assisting users in crafting court documents for specific case categories.
They system, however, is not without its flaws. It was launched in Wake County earlier this year and faced numerous glitches, resulting in extended courthouse queues, postponed court sessions, and civil rights infringement claims.
CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings also pointed out that the system could cause individuals to be arrested multiple times on the same warrant due to system incompatibilities with county court systems.
You can find out more about the new system on the NCCourts.gov site here.
