The National Hurricane Center is warning residents about a potential named storm heading for the east coast of the US.
This morning they sent out the following alert:
A tropical wave located between the west coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear to be conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form during the early to middle portions of next week while the system moves westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

“The thing that this system has working for it are very warm water temperatures. In fact, the water temperatures in this part of the Atlantic are very warm for this time of year,” said FOX Meteorologist Britta Merwin.
NHS officials are reminding all residents in Atlantic Coast states to be prepared for potential future storms.
In case of a power outage, make sure to have the following emergency items stocked in your home;
- Car charger for cell phones and other devices
- Clean drinking water (recommended 1 gallon per person per day, minimum three days)
- Flashlights
- Batteries: Extra batteries for all of your devices
- Weather radio/clock
- Non-perishable food
- First aid kit
