South Carolina just opened its very first “diverging diamond” lane exchange – a new type of exit and onramp exchange that implements a ‘double-crossover’ traffic pattern designed to decrease congestion.
The new exchange just opened at the Gold Hill Rd. exit off highway 77 in Fort Mill – the second busiest interchange in the region, with over 25k daily drivers.
Construction on the project first started 2019, and has now racked up a total cost $14.5 million.
